Occupational Therapy is a holistic allied health discipline. Many allied health disciplines focus on one system of the body or one aspect of your life – Occupational Therapy focuses on you as a whole person.

Occupational Therapists support people to engage in the activities that are meaningful to them, or activities that they need or want to do. Occupation doesn’t just refer to employment, but to any way that a person occupies their time – which might relate to leisure, self care or productivity.

Difficulty participating in an occupation might be due to factors within the person (eg. Chronic illness), the occupation itself, and the environment where the occupation is carried out (eg. too noisy, difficult to access).

Occupational Therapists can help you to adapt the way you do activities, recommend equipment (assistive technology) to compensate for areas of difficulty, and/or modify your environment so that it better supports you.
